A recent report, titled, "Mission Aborted: A Report on Institutional Governance, Financial Transparency, and Policy Influence in Major Teachers' Unions" examining the political activities and spending of teachers' unions found that unions have expanded beyond collective bargaining into broader political and ideological advocacy, including organizing efforts tied to activism and public policy campaigns.
The report was conducted in partnership between the Gevura Fund, the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI), and Rutgers University. Gevura provided research assistance and key factual information that contributed to the development of the project.
"Dues money is often sent directly from taxpayer-funded school payroll departments and skimmed off the top of teachers' paychecks before they even see it," said Brigette Herbst, Executive Director of the Gevura Fund. "If unions want to be political activists and give money to extremist organizations, let them do this without taxpayer dollars. If the politics were reversed it would be just as outrageous for schools to be sending money to the NRA."
The Gevura Fund works to combat antisemitism in K-12 education and support policies that protect students and families from discrimination and ideological extremism in schools.
